Electric car inspection: TÜVTÜRK fee, interval and exhaust exemption (2026)

An electric car is inspected at the same interval and for the same fee as a petrol car: first inspection at 3 years old, then every 2 years; in 2026, the fee charged by TÜVTÜRK (Türkiye's vehicle inspection operator) is 3,288 TL. As it has no exhaust system, it is exempt from the 460 TL exhaust emission measurement. At inspection, damage to high-voltage cables counts as a major defect.

Short answer

The Vehicle Inspection Regulation sets no separate rule for electric cars: a private car is inspected at the end of its first three years, then every two years. In TÜVTÜRK's 2026 tariff, a car inspection costs 3,288 TL including KDV (VAT), and there is no separate fee for electric cars.

The difference is in the exhaust measurement: under the Exhaust Gas Emission Control Regulation, electric and hybrid electric vehicles are not subject to emission measurement, so the 460 TL exhaust measurement fee is not paid.

What is checked on an electric car at inspection?

According to TÜVTÜRK, all standard checks such as brakes, lighting, steering, axles, wheels and body are also carried out on an electric car. Damage to electrical cables and conditions that could pose a hazard count as major defects.

Before going to inspection, it helps to check whether the charging socket and its flap are intact, whether there is visible damage to the orange high-voltage cables, whether there are impact marks on the battery's underbody protection and whether any warning light is on in the instrument panel. Battery state of health (SOH) is not measured at inspection.

Late inspection

Under article 35 of the Highway Traffic Law, the inspection fee for a vehicle not taken to inspection on time is charged with a 5% surcharge for each month of delay, and part of a month counts as a full month. For a 3,288 TL car inspection, this means about 164 TL extra per month. TÜVTÜRK's website has a late fee calculator.
