Electric car insurance (kasko) prices and traffic insurance: battery cover, sample premiums, write-offs
In electric car kasko (comprehensive insurance), the premium is set by the car's kasko value, the province and the no-claims step; cover such as the battery, the charging cable, the wallbox and towing a car with a flat battery varies by product. sigortam.net's January 2026 median prices are 18,461 TL for the Tesla Model Y and 26,006 TL for the Togg T10X (2023). In compulsory traffic insurance, the maximum premium for an electric car is about 10% lower than for petrol and diesel.

Short answer
There is no separate kasko tariff for electric cars; the premium is set by the car's value in the Insurance Association of Türkiye (TSB) kasko value list, the province where it is used, the driver's no-claims step and the insurer's estimate of spare part and labour costs. Allianz states that premiums for electric cars are higher than for conventional cars because of battery and electronic system risks; however, no independent Turkish statistics comparing the two groups have been published.
The real difference is in the cover: items such as accident, flood or fire damage to the battery, theft of or damage to the charging cable and the wallbox, and towing a car with a flat battery to the nearest station are not in every policy. Ask about each one when you get a quote.

Kasko products specific to electric cars
Kasko and wallbox insurance are also offered through Togg's digital platform Trumore in partnership with Doğa Sigorta. Tesla does not have its own insurance company in Türkiye; InsureMyTesla is a product of Allianz Türkiye.
One condition to watch: in Türkiye Sigorta's electric vehicle clause, a 15% depreciation deduction for each year is applied to battery damage and total loss; work done outside authorised service, leased batteries, incorrect charging and capacity loss over time are excluded. Always read the battery terms in your own policy.

Compulsory traffic insurance
In traffic insurance, the maximum premium is set by province, type of use, fuel type and no-claims step, and electric cars have a separate row: the ceiling premium is about 10% lower than for petrol and diesel. Maximum premiums are raised every month; under decisions of the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK), the increase for cars was 1.75% in September 2026, 1.5% in October and 1% in November.
Traffic insurance covers only the damage you cause to the other party; for damage to your own car and its battery you need kasko.
| İstanbul, car (August 2026 maximum premium) | Electric | Petrol / diesel |
|---|---|---|
| Step 0 | 51,492 TL | 57,213 TL |
| Step 8 | 8,582 TL | 9,535 TL |

Battery damage, floods and write-offs
Under SEDDK's heavy damage circular in force since 1 July 2025, a car is considered heavily damaged (a write-off, "pert") if the repair cost exceeds 60% of its market value including VAT. The electric car battery and the main power line are among the critical parts; if these parts are damaged, the loss adjuster can declare heavy damage even if the repair cost stays below 60%.
Because the battery makes up a large share of the car's cost, a car can easily be written off after serious battery damage. In that case the amount paid is calculated from the TSB kasko value; most disputes arise because this value is below the market price.
