EV charging in Türkiye as a tourist: which app, and how do you pay?

Touring Türkiye in a rented or your own electric car? What you need to know about connector compatibility, charging without membership, app sign-up and prices, with a checklist for before you set off.

Short answer

Charging stations in Türkiye use the same connectors as in Europe: Type 2 for AC and CCS2 for DC fast charging. An EV coming from Europe or rented in Türkiye charges without an adapter.

The real difference is payment: most networks start charging through their own mobile app and require an account. Some networks also let you charge without membership on a prepaid basis. Installing a few apps and trying to sign up before your trip is the safest approach.

Will your connector fit?

Cars with Type 2 (AC) and CCS2 (DC) inlets can charge at almost every public station in Türkiye. Tesla's Superchargers in Türkiye also use CCS2. CHAdeMO is only found at some older DC stations.

Cars built for the Chinese market with GB/T connectors cannot plug into Turkish stations without an adapter. Check your car's connector type and peak DC power before you travel.

Charging without an account

  • Eşarj: non-members can charge on a prepaid basis at the published prices.
  • Solarşarj: for guest charging a 1,250 ₺ pre-authorisation is placed on your card and the unused part is released.
  • Tesla Supercharger: non-Tesla cars can charge at open stations with the Tesla app; the price differs from Tesla owners'.

Before you set off

  • Download the apps of the big networks on your route (for example ZES, Trugo, Eşarj) and try signing up at home. Some apps may ask for a Turkish phone number or ID details during sign-up.
  • If a Turkish phone number is needed, a local SIM or eSIM makes life easier; SMS verification codes are sent to that number.
  • Carry two different cards: some foreign cards can fail the 3D Secure check in in-app payments.
  • Filter the Şarj Rehberim map by connector, power and network to pick the stations on your route in advance; every station page lists the network's app and start methods.

Frequently asked questions

Can I charge a foreign-registered car in Türkiye?

Are Tesla Superchargers open to non-Tesla cars?
At stations Tesla marks as open, non-Tesla cars can charge with the Tesla app. The price differs from Tesla owners'; check in the Tesla app whether a station is open.
Which app should I download?
