Type 2, CCS2, CHAdeMO: which connector fits your car?
In Türkiye you will come across three connector types. Knowing what each one is for saves you wasted trips.

First, AC versus DC
On AC charging, the alternating current from the grid is converted to direct current by the charger inside the car. That unit is small, so AC charging is slow — but it is cheap and gentle on the battery.
On DC charging the station does the conversion and feeds direct current straight into the battery. The car's small on-board unit is bypassed, so it is much faster.
Type 2 — everyday charging
The European standard AC connector. Almost all home, car park, shopping centre and workplace chargers in Türkiye use it. It delivers from 3.7 kW to 22 kW.
Almost every electric car sold since 2018 has a Type 2 inlet. This is usually the connector whose cable you need to carry in the boot.
CCS2 — long distance
Type 2 with two large DC pins added underneath. So you use the same inlet for both AC and DC.
This is the standard for roadside fast chargers in Türkiye. It goes from 50 kW up to 350 kW. Most new cars sold in Europe and Türkiye support CCS2.
CHAdeMO — a fading standard
A DC connector of Japanese origin, found on the Nissan Leaf and some older Mitsubishi models. It is usually limited to around 50 kW.
It is now rarely fitted to new stations. If you drive a CHAdeMO car, plan your route in advance; you may not find this connector at every fast charger.
In short
| Connector | Current | Typical power | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type 2 | AC | 3.7 – 22 kW | Home, car park, workplace |
| CCS2 | DC | 50 – 350 kW | Roadside, fast charging |
| CHAdeMO | DC | around 50 kW | Older stations |
Frequently asked questions
- Can I use a different connector with an adapter?
- Some adapters are possible on the AC side. On DC there is no practical adapter between CCS2 and CHAdeMO; look for the DC connector your car supports.
- Is the cable at the station, or do I bring my own?
- DC fast chargers have a fixed cable; you just plug in. Some AC stations only have a socket, so you need to bring your own Type 2 cable.
